President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an executive order on February 19, 1942 following the attack on Pearl Harbor. This ordered the relocation of all Japanese Americans to internment camps. It was a total disregard to the American Constitution. The government was and is supposed to protect the rights of its people. That is their responsibility and they ignored it for one simple reason: they were paranoid.
The government moved American citizens of Japanese ancestry and even Japanese World War I veterans to these camps. Many children and their families had to leave their homes and were often times separated. Even though “...not one Japanese American, citizen or not, had engaged in espionage, no one had committed any act of sabotage.” (Michi Weglyn, 1976). Many people died in the camps due to insufficient medical care and even emotional distress. It was a hard time for all these innocent people.
